Sedatives: In severe cases, chlorpromazine hydrochloride (Lergactil) is being used to control vomiting with some success. The drug is depressant to the central and autonomous nervous system. The dosage may be given as 50 mgm. intra-muscularly twice or thrice daily according to the severity of the case. There is a possibility of developing jaundice after prolonged administration of the drug. In case of severe hypotension, hydrocortisone 100 mg is given in the drip.
Antihistamine: Pregnidoxin (meclizine), avomine (promethazine theoclate) 25mg. or stemetil (prochlorperazine) 5mg three times daily, is found to be useful in mild cases; siquil (triflupromazine-squibb) 10mg orally or intra-muscularly is also found to be useful at bed time in these cases. In moderately severe cases, phenergan (Promethazine hydrochlor) 25mg may be used along with largactil parenterally.
Vitamins: Inj. Vitamine B1 50mgm intra-muscularly and Inj. Vit C 100mgm. I.M. are given daily in severe cases. Other vitamin B complex factors are also to be given intramuscularly. Amongst the later, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) is used in clinical practice.
